“But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; by his stripes we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5

Introduction: Why This Testimony Matters

Today we lift up a remarkable story of God’s faithfulness, mercy and restoration — the story of Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship‑West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, who, after undergoing surgery and a period of medical leave, has returned to his pulpit and ministry with renewed strength and purpose. This is a testimony for many — not only for him, but for the congregation, for the countless lives he has touched, and for all who pray for healing, renewal and steadfast leadership.

We thank the Lord for every person involved: the medical team, the church staff, the praying community, the family of Dr. Haynes, and all who awaited his return with faith. We rejoice and say: Reason to praise: God heals, restores, and raises up His servants in their time of need.

Background: Who Is Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III?

Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III has led Friendship-West Baptist Church for forty years. Under his leadership, the congregation has grown from fewer than 100 members in the early 1980s to more than 13,000 today. His ministry has not only impacted the local church but has extended into national circles of justice, civil rights, youth empowerment, education and community development.

Among his many roles, he has served on the boards of the Conference of National Black Churches, the National Action Network, and the IC3 Church & Development Conference. He was also briefly appointed to lead the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the civil-rights organization founded by the Rev. Jesse Jackson. He is an author, preacher, mentor and community builder.

Dr. Haynes has pioneered programs such as the THR!VE Leadership Intern Program, offering mentoring, paid internships and community service to young men and women, and has championed scholarship aid and partnerships for historically Black colleges and universities. His voice has been heard in both pulpit and public square — advocating justice, hope and transformation.

Highlights of the Return

In his return message, Dr. Haynes declared, “I am grateful to God for healing and restoration, and to my Friendship-West family and the community for your prayers, patience, and love. This journey reminded me of the power of faith, rest, and community support. I return reenergized, refocused, and ready to continue the work of building hope, justice, and healing together.”

Reason to praise and thank the Lord: The restoration of this faithful leader is a public demonstration that God is the great physician, that He honours the prayers of His people, and that He brings leaders back when their work is not yet finished. His return is not merely a resumption but a renewed commission.

Why This Is a Great Miracle for Dr. Haynes & For Many

This event carries multiple layers of significance:

  • Personal healing: For Dr. Haynes it is a testimony of God’s sustaining power through illness, surgery and recovery.
  • Congregational encouragement: For the thousands at Friendship-West and beyond, his return restores stability, vision and momentum in ministry.
  • Leadership continuity: In a time when many ministries struggle when a leader is absent, the seamless transition underscores the strength of the church’s structure and the faithfulness of those who stepped in.
  • Public witness: As a prominent church leader engaged in social justice, education and community impact, his healing and return offer hope to many who may feel overlooked, sick, or discouraged.
  • Divine reminder: The story reminds all believers that God does not abandon His servants, even when they face vulnerability. It highlights the truth of 2 Chronicles 16:9: “The eyes of the LORD search to and fro throughout the earth that he may strongly support those whose heart is blameless toward him.”

Because of all this we say: Reason to praise: The Lord restores, renews and reassigns for greater ministry.
