Prayer Guide: Former Youth Pastor Luke Cunningham
Why We're Praying
Luke Cunningham, a former youth pastor in Lubbock and other Texas churches, has recently been re-indicted on **16 counts of sexual assault of a child**, stemming from alleged offenses between 2017 and 2019. He remains in custody in Lubbock County on nearly a $500,000 bond.
“The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” — James 5:16
Background & Ministry Context
Luke Cunningham previously served as a youth pastor at several churches across Texas, including **Turning Point Community Church in Lubbock**, **Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury**, and others in Fort Worth.
Current Developments Requiring Prayer
• A Lubbock County grand jury has **re-indicted** Cunningham on 16 new counts related to sexual assault of a child. These allegations do **not** stem from new accusers.
• Earlier, he was arrested in June 2024 by U.S. marshals; charges ranged from sexual assault of a child to aggravated sexual assault.
Why Prayer Is Needed
- For truth and justice: Pray the courts handle the case with fairness, protection for survivors, and for all allegations to come to light. (Proverbs 21:15)
- For victims and families: Pray for healing, peace, and justice for those hurt by these alleged actions. (Psalms 147:3)
- For the church bodies affected: Pray for congregations where he served to be protected, shepherded wisely, and equipped to care for trauma. (Ephesians 4:11–12)
- For Cunningham himself: Pray for repentance, Christ’s mercy, and that he would genuinely turn to God, humbled and transformed. (2 Corinthians 7:10)
- For salvation: We pray that through this serious moment—even amid just prosecution—God would draw him to Himself, offering grace and a new life in Christ. (John 6:44)

Our Heavenly Father, You are just and compassionate, and You draw near to the brokenhearted. (Psalms 34:18)
We bring before You the difficult and painful situation surrounding former youth pastor Luke Cunningham. We pray first for the **survivors**—may they find healing, justice, and Your peace. We ask for the courts and investigators to pursue truth courageously and compassionately, for fair and just proceedings.
Lord, we also pray for the **congregations and families** impacted—guard them, heal their wounds, and strengthen the leaders providing care and spiritual help. May Your church reflect Your holiness and love in how they respond. (Romans 12:15)
We now lift up **Luke Cunningham himself**. God, we know that in Your economy, even the most grievous sin does not put a person beyond Your redeeming reach. We ask that You confront him with his need for You. Grant him genuine **repentance**, deep conviction, and a humble return to You. (Acts 3:19)
Above all, we cry out for **salvation**—that Christ’s blood, shed for sinners, would wash him clean. Draw him by the Holy Spirit to place his faith solely in Jesus. (Romans 10:9–10)
Father, we pray this not to minimize the severity of wrongdoing, but because You are a God of restoration and new beginnings. Let Your grace abound where sin abounded. (Romans 5:20)
In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
