Prayer Request — Cindy Clemishire & Those Affected by Allegations Against Robert Morris
Cindy Clemishire — who has publicly accused former Gateway Church founder Robert Morris of sexual abuse beginning when she was a child — and her father have filed a civil lawsuit in Texas alleging abuse, concealment and related harms; Morris also faces criminal indictments in Oklahoma alleging lewd or indecent acts with a child. These developments followed Morris’s resignation from Gateway in 2024 and have prompted legal filings, public testimony and wide reporting. The events have left survivors seeking justice and healing and have created strain across the church community.
What happened — verified, load-bearing facts
Date & location
The alleged abuse is reported to have occurred in the 1980s (reports say beginning in 1982); criminal indictments were filed in 2025 in Oklahoma and civil litigation was filed in Texas in 2025. Gateway Church is based in Southlake (Dallas–Fort Worth area), and related court actions and hearings have taken place in Texas and Oklahoma.
Parties involved
- Accuser / plaintiff: Cindy Clemishire (and her father in the civil suit), who publicly alleges sexual abuse by Robert Morris beginning when she was a child.
- Accused: Robert Preston Morris, founder and former senior pastor of Gateway Church — now the subject of criminal indictments in Oklahoma and civil claims in Texas.
- Institutions: Gateway Church (the megachurch Morris founded) and various current/former church leaders and elders named in civil filings; state prosecutors and civil attorneys are the legal actors handling criminal and civil matters.
Sequence reported by police, witnesses & court
Public reporting and court filings describe a pattern: Clemishire went public with accusations, criminal charges were later filed in Oklahoma (indictments announced in 2025), and Clemishire and her father filed a civil suit in Texas alleging abuse, defamation and concealment. The case has produced testimony before legislative committees, media interviews by the accuser, motions and hearings in multiple courts, and public statements by both parties’ attorneys.
Legal status & changes
Criminal indictments in Oklahoma allege multiple counts of lewd/indecent acts with a child; civil litigation in Texas asserts claims including defamation and concealment and seeks damages. Morris resigned from his role at Gateway Church in 2024 amid the first public disclosures; since then there have been ongoing court filings, pretrial hearings and procedural developments. The matters remain active in both criminal and civil courts.
Community impact
The allegations and legal actions have shaken many in Gateway’s congregation and the wider community: reports note declines in giving and attendance, staff changes and layoffs, and calls for institutional transparency and better safeguarding. Survivors and their advocates continue to press for truth, accountability, and pastoral care.
Background on the people involved
Robert Morris (brief background)
Robert Preston Morris founded and led Gateway Church, a large multi-campus megachurch in the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Under his leadership the church grew substantially and engaged in global ministry and public engagement. He resigned from Gateway in 2024 after public allegations surfaced; he has since faced criminal charges and civil litigation related to those allegations.
Cindy Clemishire (brief background)
Cindy Clemishire has publicly said the abuse began when she was a child; she and her father filed a civil lawsuit in Texas alleging sexual abuse, defamation and a coordinated effort to conceal wrongdoing. Clemishire has testified publicly and before legislative bodies about her experiences, and her case has become a focal point for discussion about institutional accountability and protections for minors.
Why we are bringing this before the Lord
This situation touches deep spiritual and pastoral needs. We intercede because:
- Comfort for survivors: Those harmed by abuse need God’s presence, pastoral care, and practical support (2 Corinthians 1:3–4; Psalms 34:18).
- Truth & justice: We pray for clear, compassionate legal processes and for truth to come to light so victims may receive justice and communities can be reconciled (Proverbs 2:6–9; Micah 6:8).
- Repentance & protection: Pray for hearts to be changed where wrongdoing occurred, and for stronger safeguards in churches to protect children and the vulnerable (2 Corinthians 7:10; Psalms 82:3–4).
- Healing for the church: For congregational restoration, humble leadership, and systems reform where needed (Ephesians 4:31–32; Isaiah 61:1–3).
- Salvation for all involved: Especially for Robert Morris — that he would encounter Christ, repent and be transformed, consistent with Romans 10:9–10.

For the survivors — healing, provision & support
Lord Jesus, comfort those who have been harmed by abuse. Bind up their wounds, give them wise counselors and safe community, and provide for any practical needs that arose from the harm. Replace shame with dignity, fear with peace, and confusion with clarity. May those who are wounded know Your nearness (Psalms 34:18) and receive the pastoral care and material help they need.
For truth & just process
Father, guide the legal proceedings and all who seek the facts. Give judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, investigators and court staff wisdom and integrity. Protect witnesses and ensure the process is fair, transparent, and oriented toward the welfare of victims and the public good. Where criminal acts are proven, may justice be done; where reparation is possible, may restoration follow.
For repentance, accountability & reform
Holy Spirit, convict hearts where cover-up, negligence, or abuse occurred. Lead people to genuine repentance that bears fruit: confession, restitution where possible, institutional reform, and prevention measures that safeguard children and the vulnerable. Raise up leaders who shepherd with humility and accountability.
Specific prayer for salvation (Christ-centered)
Gracious God, we also pray for Robert Morris. We do not excuse sin; we call it out and seek accountability. At the same time we believe in Your power to transform any life. Pursue him with Your Spirit; bring true conviction, repentance and a life-changing encounter with Jesus. We pray Romans 10:9 over his life — that confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in his heart that God raised Him from the dead will bring new life if he turns to You. Grant also the humility and willingness to make restitution where possible.
For the church & community healing
Lord, bring pastoral wisdom to Gateway Church and to other churches wrestling with similar wounds. Help congregations to respond with care to victims, to implement safeguarding policies, and to be agents of healing rather than denial. May Your justice and mercy meet in the church’s response.
